Gordon joined the Canadian Navy in 1980, straight out of high school. He served for seven and a half years and obtained the rank of Leading Seaman before voluntarily releasing in 1987 with an honorable discharge. He then returned home, to Toronto, in 1988.
Between 1988 and 2010, Gordon volunteered on PTAs for his children's schools and volunteered as a coach for his son's hockey teams.
Joining ANAVETS in 2002, Gordon has and continues to fill many positions within the organization. These positions include unit Vice-President, President, and Provincial Command Vice-President. He currently sits as Dominion Command Vice-President as their Veterans Advocacy Chairman, while still maintaining a Directorship within his home unit. In February, 2023, Gordon received an honorary life membership for his service to the association.
In 2016, Gordon joined Veterans Emergency Transition Services (VETS Canada), where he provides ground support for homeless and at-risk Veterans in the Toronto area.
In 2017, he took a position with Guitars for Vets, collecting and distributing guitars to Veterans enrolled in the program across Ontario.
Gordon and his wife, Rose Anne, now reside in Mississauga, Ontario, and have been married since 1988. They have three children: Lisa, Joseph, and Christopher and six grandchildren.
