Dr. Williamson gained her BSc Psychology (Hons) from the University of Bath in 2013. She then earned her doctorate in 2016 exploring the impact of parental responses following child experiences of trauma across the United Kingdom and in South Africa. She joined the Psychological Medicine Department at King's College London in 2016, working with the King's Centre for Military Health Research (KCMHR) to carry out a variety of research projects to improve patient outcomes, including studies to explore the impact of military service on well-being in older Veterans, the impact of parental military service on child well-being, and recovery after trauma including moral injury. Since 2019, her work has focused on co-designing psychological interventions for trauma exposed military Veterans with complex needs as well as interventions for parents of children with mental disorders. Dr. Williamson was an ESTSS (European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies) Future Leader and in 2024 was elected President of the UK Psychological Trauma Society (UKPTS). She also serves on a NATO panel providing the UK perspective on military ethics, leadership and mental health. Dr. Williamson has specialized in the field of trauma and PTSD and is extensively published with more than 90 academic articles to date. Currently, Dr. Williamson leads several research studies and clinical trials. These include studies of patients living with spine sarcoma, an evaluation of the use of psylocibin for patients with PTSD, and an RCT to evaluate a novel co-designed treatment for moral injury-related mental disorders.
