The Chronic Pain Centre of Excellence for Canadian Veterans (CPCoE) is pleased to announce the appointment of Cam Kowalski as its new Director of Operations. Cam brings over three decades of experience in policing roles with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and significant expertise in safety, security, and emergency management.

Throughout his distinguished career with the RCMP, Cam led some of the largest and most complex security operations in Canadian history. Notably, he served as the lead aviation security planner for the 2010 Olympics and the G8/G20 Summits, and as the airspace security commander for the multi-agency, multi-national efforts during these events. His exceptional leadership earned him several prestigious awards, including The Meritorious Service Medal of British Columbia and a personal letter of thanks from President Barack Obama. Before retiring from the RCMP in 2018, Cam was the Emergency Manager at the Divisional Emergency Operation Centre in Surrey, BC.

Following his retirement, Cam held the role of Director of Safety and Security for the Great Canadian Rail tour Company, Ltd.(Rocky Mountaineer), where he spearheaded strategic safety and security initiatives and coordinated large-scale emergency response exercises. Recently, Cam served with the RCMP Protective Operations - National Division, where he played a key role in security planning for the 2023 POTUS visit to Ottawa. Academically, Cam holds a master’s degree in leadership from Royal Roads University, with his research on trauma leadership in policing published widely.

Cam is also an active volunteer, contributing to the Cancer Assistance Program (CAP) and serving on several committees. As a native Hamiltonian, he is thrilled to join the CPCoE team. “I am thrilled and honoured to be joining the team at CPCoE. I can think of few things that I have done in my career that will be more rewarding than supporting the well-being of Veterans. I have a vested interest and passion for those who chose to serve their country,” Cam expressed.

The CPCoE is confident that Cam’s extensive experience and commitment to Veteran well-being will significantly enhance its operations and impact. His leadership will be pivotal as CPCoE continues to advance its mission to improve the lives of veterans through research, education, and support.
